This event used a king of the hill format where the winner stayed on the machine as if playing casual games. The players who got the longest win streaks — ARG with 7 & 9 games, Futachan with 7 and Seki with 10 — then slugged it out in the finals. Details here.

Thriller Blanka Plus Alpha

The ST monitor is on the fritz, and it's given start-color Blanka a wonderfully ghoulish look. Pictures — and the name — courtesy of Riz0ne. Some new videos over here. GreenTea's team took first place in a 3rd Strike 2on that same evening.

Thanks for Live Broadcasts

Here are some tournaments going down this weekend. The times listed are for Japan.

Street Fighter IV - Nagoya Street Battle 11 3on3
12pm on November 28th
Stream TBA — maybe here

Last time they had 55 teams. ARG (@Claw) teamed up with Henboku and Kubo — SBO champs on Super Turbo, Arcana Heart and Melty Blood, respectively — but they lost first round.

Super Turbo - Thunder Beast Cup 3on3
1:30pm on November 29th

Raijuhai in Japanese. Akashachi Kancho probably came up with the name. He wrote that the idea is to have a big 3on3 in Chubu since Kanto has X-Mania and Kansai has Rekku Cup.

Vampire Savior - Baba Mikado Singles
3pm on November 28th (VH at 5)

I can't say with certainty that this event will be streamed live. They used to show all Mikado events but I'm not sure if that's still going on.

Akiman Exhibit

Last month a gallery in Akihabara ran an exhibition of some of Akiman's artwork.

On November 29th the Thunder Beast Cup — a 3on3 Super Turbo tournament — is going down at Kasugai 50. Akashachi Kancho wrote that since Kanto has X-Mania and Kansai has the Rekka Cup (annual A-cho event) Chubu ought to have a good 3on3 tourney. They're planning to run a live stream, maybe here.

Vampire Savior Character Parameters

Working with Dara and the listeners on a recent Nico radio show, DD put together a set of character parameter graphs for Vampire Savior. Click the image over there for a larger version. He doesn't go into a lot of detail beyond stressing that this is a work-in-progress. For reference, the ranking diagram that DD and company put together earlier this year is here.

Clockwise from the top, the attributes are:
攻撃 Offense
潜在能力 Potential Ability
対応 Counters*
守備 Defense
安定性 Stability
スピード Speed

* I'm not sure how to translate this term. Perhaps Anakaris has a high mark because he can respond to jump-ins well.

77 entrants

1st Otochun (Chun x3)
2nd ARG (Claw x3)
3rd Futachan (Ryu x3)
3rd Seki (DJ x3)

EDIT: just a few highlights. Gama no Abura (Umehara ga... gamen haji!) did a terrific job with the stream.

Underdogs Baby Nine (Honda) and Tsumura (Fei-Long) both making it through to the third round was excellent. Baby Nine (Xbox Live player) took ARG to five games. ARG came up with some really clutch wake up throws. Nero (Blanka), visiting from Shikoku, did really well at the pre-star 4on, too.

It seemed like a lot of heavy hitters were missing: no Taira, Komoda, Inomata, Yaya, Nakamura. No Kurahashi either, which is a shame; besides Aniken he's one of the only guys who runs a mixed team (Ryu, Guile, Boxer) at full or increased strength. Gian and Tsuji were both there but I guess they had off-days.

Second round A block was Otochun, ARG, Aniken and TIO. Tough draw for the Kyushu Dhalsim. Both of the Otochun-ARG sets — A block and finals — were fantastic. Otochun-Aniken was great, too. Chun's footsies were too strong for Aniken's shotos but Anioah almost made a comeback. Otochun stopped a Crazy Buffalo with a standing roundhouse towards the end of the set. Pretty funny.

All three of the X-Mania 10 winners made it to the top 8. Gunze vs. Seki was a nailbiter.

Sounds of the Arcade Plus Alpha

All of the audio in the foreground here comes from Ms. Pac-Man, the Ms. Pac-Man joystick and Will, the guy playing Ms. Pac-Man. Thank you!

Far Corner Only ST Tricks

I added a couple of side-dependent tactics to this old post.

Farewell Shinjuku, Howdy Baba

Shinjuku Mikado is finally closing on October 18th. There are a bunch of tournament posters over here. Super Turbo action — including wednesday training with Mattsun — will continue at the Takadanobaba store.

SNF2X Poll

I put a quick poll on left side of the blog. In addition to picking one of the choices I'd ask that you:

1) tell your sparring partners about it. The idea is to survey regular readers but friends of regular readers would be excellent, too.

2) post ideas for future polls in the comments to this post. This concept was lifted from the SF2 Fan Site (see below) but those questions don't really fit here.

Thank you!

Star Cup Live Stream

Gama no Abura (NSB chief) is going to help get a stream up for Star Cup weekend.

Pre-Star Cup Event
October 10th at 7:30pm (Japan)

Duo 4on4 tournament (each team consists of four characters divided up between two players) followed by some exhibition matches.

The SuperStar Cup 2009
October 11th at 1pm (Japan)

Solo 3on3 as usual.

It isn't clear what exactly is going to be streamed and where, but the exhibition matches, at least, will be on Nico Live. You'll need a Nico Video account for that. I'll post URLs when I have them.
